Cargo Bikes in Rotterdam to make urban logistics sustainable and future proof

It is an inspiring dream image of the future, but also a vision that is slowly turning into reality. The use of human-powered vehicles in urban distribution is increasing, but should we adapt the city to accommodate these newcomers? Students from the Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences have carried out the project ‘Cargobikes in Rotterdam’. They conducted research on the infrastructural consequences and possibilities for using cargobikes for urban distribution in Rotterdam. Students, lecturers, experts and the business community within the field of Light (Electric) Freight Vehicles (LEFV) joined forces to formulate the necessary adjustments to fit cargobikes in the current street ecosystem, taking into account all stakeholders who make use of the streets in the inner city.
